Developing and Maintaining an Inspection-Ready Pipeline Safety Program

For the past several decades, pipeline incidents have resulted in highly publicized accounts of property damage, environmental harm, neighborhood destruction, serious injury, and death. As a result, pipeline safety regulations have been established that govern how the pipeline industry designs, builds, operates, and maintains pipelines. Pipeline operators are required to comply with applicable federal and state regulations and be prepared to demonstrate compliance in the event of a regulatory inspection.

This article stresses knowing the what, who and how of creating a pipeline safety program makes all the difference in helping to prevent these pipeline incidents, and what a company can do.
